Our one day Acting for OMBs Conference has been specifically designed for partners and those at management level who advise owner managed businesses. Amanda Fisher, AJF Taxation

Amanda will present a few client case studies to refresh on the key aspects of Business Property Relief and how we can be structuring the business, IHT efficiently. This session will cover:

  • A refresher of the key points for Business Property Relief (BPR)
  • A client case study, considering the inheritance tax implications and BPR.  Also, the issues of control, business properties, non-trading assets and director loans
  • A recent client case study of the transfer of business shares to a son during lifetime, considering the capital taxes implications, residence and valuation aspects for IHT

Louise Dunford, LD Consultancy

An informative and lively session featuring all the key changes for 2021, including:

  • IR35 extension to private sector, where are we in April?
  • Casual workers and the new cases
  • Summary of legislative changes in employment law in 2020 and 2021
  • The end of furlough and restructuring the workforce

We will also include key cases from the last 12 months particularly relevant to SME clients and small professional firms, as far as time allows.

This session will review all of the major announcements from the Budget and their implications on owner-managers.


John Allen, Boolers

John will look at some real life examples of how clients are managing their pension benefits.

The session will include:

  • Annual allowance planning (including reference to carry forward, and tapering relief rules)

  • How pensions are treated in the event of death
  • An update regarding any changes from the budget on March 3rd

This session will consider topical areas of case law and practical day-to-day issues to be considered by OMBs and their owners, including claiming R&D and Covid compliance.

The rate of pace of change in UK financial reporting has slowed in recent years but the application of accounting standards still presents many challenges for firms acting for OMBs. This session will focus on:

Conference speakers


Amanda Fisher began her career with HM Revenue and Customs and later moved over into practice and qualified with Grant Thornton where she gained considerable experience dealing with private tax clients and their businesses, trusts and estates. Since becoming self employed in 2004, Amanda has her own tax and accountancy practice of private clients, alongside her other freelance work as a lecturer, examiner and author. She also regularly works as a consultant to firms and practitioners on an array of tax matters, specialising in capital taxes, trust and estate matters. Amanda has devoted time as a committee member for STEP and ICAEW and is currently a branch committee member for ATT/CIOT.


Louise has since 1987 been continuously involved in training and consultancy, both for professional firms and for commercial organisations. Until recently she also worked as an associate senior lecturer at the University of Portsmouth where she was mainly engaged on postgraduate teaching on the MBA, MA Personnel Management and MA Business Law, and she retains an active relationship with the University, having taught on their IPD courses in Grand Cayman and Guernsey. Louise specialises mainly in aspects of practical employment law, company law and on professional negligence, and has published widely in leading academic and professional journals.


Mark joined HMRC in 1989 and undertook their full training exams. In 1996 he was made Deputy District Inspector for the Derby area and had detailed experience of all types of Revenue enquiries.

Mark joined Mercia as an experienced lecturer and now provides a wide variety of CPD training around the country. He is also a well known contributor to professional publications and provides technical consultancy to the accountancy profession.


Peter qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG. He worked for The Financial Training Company for 6 years, the last three as a senior manager in the London office, responsible for developing courses for corporate clients. Peter presents courses to accountancy firms, companies and financial institutions. Peter's areas of technical expertise are financial reporting, auditing and practice regulation. He also writes and delivers financial analysis and personal development programmes for a range of blue chip and private companies.


John joined Boolers in December 2017 making a career change having spent 11 successful years in commercial FMCG with both AB InBev & Kraft Heinz.

John became a fully qualified advisor in October 2018 following the successful completion of his Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning. He is currently working towards Chartered status.
